Anticipation Sensation

We are officially a week out from Emerald City Comicon (ECCC)!

What this means, is that I've been flustered trying to get costumes together, repairing the ones I haven't worn in a little while, and creating new ones.

So here's my Status List:

Jawa: I think my crew has figured out how they're planning on rigging up the eyes, so that they glow appropriately.  I hunt for a reasonably priced bandoleer.

Mandalorian: I have finished painting my new helmet. I just need to tweek the padding so that its comfortable for its debut "troop" at ECCC. Also I need to shim my gauntlets for better fit for longer wearings, which ECCC certainly falls under this category.

Imperial Officer: I found that my boots, after 4 long years of wear, are finally falling apart. Considering how much I SERIOUSLY wear them ( oh yes, its all the time, especially in the fall and winter months because they are awesome and so dang comfortable) this was an eventuality that I should have planned better for. The company that made these boots have since gone out of business, thus leaving me one sad Si. So I'll need to repair them as best I can, and hunt for new ones. This is not proving to be an easy task, as I honestly don't have hundreds of dollars, and have a wide calf.

Secret Awesome Costume: This is the biggie! There has been picture taking of some, sadly not all, of the work going into this project. I'm not quite ready to show it yet, especially since there is the risk of not getting it done on time. I promise if this works out there WILL be pictures. I am excited for it, since I haven't really seen anyone attempt to cosplay this particular character yet, curvy or not!

So I am abuzz with all sorts of work!

Then come ECCC itself! Which is always fun and exciting. It means getting to see everyone else's cosplay work, meeting new people, hanging out with old friends and raising money for a local charity that has been so kind to Garrison Titan.

I'll talk more about that later!

New Costume Work in Progress

I have embarked on a new costume.... The Jawa from Star Wars.

For those that may be less Star Wars obsessed, these are Jawas:

The first step of the process for creating a Jawa is dyeing the monks cloth used for the robe. I purchased 8 yards to be on the safe side. Due to the amount of fabric, and the smallness of my one bedroom apartment, this ended up being quite comical. I used 5 boxes of rit dye and a big old storage bin, inside my bathtub.

There was so much the only way to agitate the fabric with the dye was with an old broom handle.

\(Oh hey my hair doesn't look too bad. Not shown: how warm it was since to get enough light I had to use the heat lamps in my ceiling.)

After rinsing it for what literally seemed like forever, and drying it for an equally long time, this was my end result. It's only about half of the fabric.

(My cat Spunky Hufflepuff chose to pose when I was taking the picture. Sometimes she's just dorky like that.)

Next step: SEWING AND WEATHERING!!

Just the Beginning

Convention season is fast approaching here in the Pacific Northwest, and for this geek chic gal that means COSTUMES. ALL THE COSTUMES. Very much working on the costumes I plan on wearing for the flurry of events.

Of course it would help if Emerald City Comic Con (ECCC) and Sakura Con were spaced more apart, but since they are not, we cosplayer must make do with the time we have available.

So let me introduce myself for any who don't know me personally already.
I'm a 30 year old transplant to Seattle from New Jersey. Yes, I have the accent. I doubt it will ever leave. I LOVE Star Wars to an unnatural level, and that is why so many of my costumes are Star Wars, although I also costume for many other genres as well.
And perhaps most noticeable to the public, I am a curvy and plus sized gal.

And that's what I want to share with the universe, how its possible to have fun, make and wear costumes and not be a stick figure. There's other blogs for that.

Now to the costuming!!!
